I left the party at 3 a.m. eternal

I slept till late,

the cat by my side all night.

he was there but I was away

dreaming
ascending
and descending
many hidden staircases
in a large hotel

an old woman led me around
and kept re-settling me in different rooms.

there was a disturbance
that I don't remember now.

she would comfort me,
and remind me of a person who had loved me
but they had not been in my thoughts,
not now,
not in this hotel.

the more we think of those memories,
the more they are distorted.

You're invited...

Keep Your Memories on the Front Lawn reflects on the stories and experiences of three young female artists and friends navigating life in their early 20s; a time of share house living, Centrelink income, new romances, obsessions and lingering hangovers. Details of clothing, dwellings, relationships, friendships, conversations and pop culture become essential building blocks in recovering shared memories of nights out, parties and gigs; “what was I wearing?”, “where were we going?”, “who was there?” and “how did we even get home that night?” The future is an abstract concept which can only be seen through humourous projections of unlikely characters and situations. Through their work, the artists, Ruby Knight, Jennifer Rooke and Haley Rose, piece together real and imagined scenarios to address questions about memory and create mementos of a shared world.
